The Promise I Made to Myself at the Start of the Year

At the start of this year, I made myself a promise.

Not about revenue. Not about client targets or growth milestones.

Just this: remember to have fun along the way.

If you have ever owned a business, you will know how easy it is to let that one slip. The decisions, the strategy, the weight of it all. It is a container that, if you are not careful, can become the only container you live in.

So this year, I decided to hold on to both.

    May Was a Big Month

May was, without question, my biggest month in business so far.

The NT Budget. The federal budget. A SimPro implementation for a new client. A trip to Brisbane to optimise another. Two full days with the extraordinary Ian Stevens, who reminded me in the most generous and masterful way that sales is not about funnels or KPIs. It is about human connection. It always has been.

And then the moment I had been quietly building towards.

I onboarded my very first team member, Che.

Running a business solo is rewarding. But it is also incredibly lonely. Having someone join me on this journey, someone to think alongside and share the load with, meant more than I can put into words. I cannot wait to introduce you to her soon.

But Here Is the Part That Mattered Just as Much

In between all of that, I kept my promise.

Fishing with the kids after the budget frustration. Bass in the Grass with our kids and good friends, the first time in ten years. Time in Brisbane with the people who challenge me, love me well and remind me that I belong exactly where I am. And a weekend at Dundee to close the month out, fishing and bonfires with the people I love most.

May was exhausting. But it was also one of the most wholesome and growing months I have had in a long time.

What I Want to Leave You With

You are not just a business owner. You are a person. And that person deserves to show up in their own life, not just their business.

If you have made a promise to yourself this year and it has quietly slipped, this is your reminder.

It is not too late to pick it back up.

The work will still be there tomorrow. The moments worth showing up for, those have a shorter window.

    Keep your promise.
